What is a German scholarship?

With the german scholarship, the German government supports particularly talented and capable students.

The scholarship amounts to 300 euros per month.

150 euros of this is paid by the federal government.

Private sponsors - for example, business enterprises, foundations, associations or other private individuals - contribute 150 euros.

IU has awarded a total of 94 Deutschlandstipendien to students from all study models for the summer semester of 2021.

The application phase for a Germany Scholarship at IU International University will take place for the winter semester: 01.06. - 31.07. of the respective year and for the summer semester: 01.12. - 31.01. of the respective year.

What is eligible for funding?

In addition to a first degree program, a second or supplementary degree program as well as master's degree programs are generally eligible for funding. Funding is available to students who are enrolled at IU or who will enroll in the semester following their application. For distance learning and part-time students - parallel to the start of the Campus Studies and dual study programs - the cut-off date for the start of funding is April 1 or October 1. The scholarship holder must be enrolled as a student at IU during the funding period. Proof of this must be provided.

Students

in the first or second semester of study who are enrolled on the basis of professional qualifications and who can provide relevant degree certificates.

Bachelor's and Master's students

from the third semester onwards who have achieved outstanding results during their studies so far.


Bachelor students of the IU

who are in their first or second semester of study and can demonstrate an outstanding grade point average in their baccalaureate or specialized baccalaureate.

Master's students of the IU

who are in their first or second semester of study and can demonstrate an outstanding grade point average in their bachelor's degree.

Selection criteria

Application documents to be submitted

  • Letter of motivation of no more than 2 pages, in which in particular the personal career and personal objectives, special social or personal circumstances, as well as social commitment and willingness to take on responsibility are explained

  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form

  • Certificate of higher education entrance qualification - in the case of foreign certificates, a translation in accordance with the German system and grade conversion into the German grade system

  • If applicable, proof of an aptitude test of IU International University of Applied Sciences

  • If applicable, Bachelor's degree certificate or diploma certificate (for applicants in the Master's programme)

  • If applicable, proof of examinations and achievements to date (ECTS points and evaluations)

  • If applicable, internship and work references

  • Proof of special awards and prizes, if applicable

  • If applicable, evidence of circumstances within the meaning of § 2 Para. 1 and 2 of the IU International University of Applied Sciences Guidelines (relating to the performance records as well as extracurricular or extracurricular involvement and special personal or family circumstances).

  • If applicable, proof of enrolment at IU International University of Applied Sciences

Certificates, awards and other achievements (e.g. active participation in projects/associations) can only be recognised and evaluated if they can be supported by documentary evidence.

Next steps

If your application is shortlisted, we will request officially certified certificates and translations by post if they have not already been submitted to us with your enrolment. You will not receive any confirmation of receipt of your application and no feedback as to whether any documents are missing. Applications not submitted in due time and form will not be considered.

Incorrect information in the application procedure will lead to immediate exclusion from the award procedure. Scholarship holders are selected by the representatives appointed by the university based on the documents submitted in due form and time. Approval or rejection will be notified by e-mail.

The legal basis of the German Scholarship Programme is the Act on the Creation of a National Scholarship Programme (Stipendienprogramm-Gesetz - StipG) of 21 July 2010 and the Ordinance on the Implementation of the Scholarship Programme Act (Stipendienprogramm-Verordnung – StipV) of 20 December 2010. To award German Scholarships, it is necessary to collect and process personal data from applicants and to store it for this purpose.
