• We can only check applications that are duly filled out.

• For your recognition of achievements, we always need corresponding supporting evidence.

• You must submit any missing documents within four weeks of submission of your application or four weeks of our request for missing documents.

• We consider previous achievements only if they correspond to the level and learning outcomes of the module/course for which you want them to be credited.

• All documents/evidence must be submitted in German or English. Documents in other languages must be translated by a certified translator or by the higher education institution/training provider who has issued the documents.

• The decision on the recognition of previous achievements will be made by the examination board or a person appointed by the board.

• If an aptitude test is required as an admission requirement for your entry into the course, we cannot recognise or credit the specific modules from this test.

• You are enrolled from the date on which you officially start your Bachelor's or Master's programme. This does not include participation in aptitude tests, TASC examinations or admission courses.

• In the case of new degree programmes or re-accreditations, you can apply for recognition only at the start of the new programme.
  Please note that changes in the curriculum may have an impact on your approved recognition.

• Altogether, we can recognise up to 50% of the ECTS credits for your degree programme.

• For the recognition of professional experience, we need proof in the form of your qualified work certificate/official job description or a duly filled-in employer's confirmation IU form.

• Your experience must correspond to the module/course you want to be recognised in terms of level and learning outcome.

• We can only recognise professional experience that you have not acquired within the framework of an apprenticeship after three years of full-time studies (Bachelor) and only if your experience is relevant. The training period does not count as professional experience. If you have three years of full-time work experience, we can recognise your qualification with up to 5 ECTS.

• The recognition of vocational training or advanced education is only possible if your certificate of participation contains information on the contents and the duration of the course.

• Please provide evidence of all achievements that you would like us to recognise in the form of examination certificates and the corresponding module descriptions.

• The final theses (diploma thesis or Bachelor's/Master's thesis) is excluded from the scope of recognition.

• We recognise foreign languages if the language level on your certificate is specified according to the CEFR. For A-levels (Abitur), we can automatically recognise it as the B2 language level for the distance learning programme.

  
  

For the transfer of your grades:

• For recognised achievements, we accept the grade of the external German university/institution at which you completed the achievement if this corresponds to the grading system of IU.

• If our grading system does not correspond to the grading system of the university/institution where you completed the course, we will convert your grades using a table and transfer them to the IU system. If the grading systems are not comparable, we recognise your performance without grading.

• If your recognition relates to competencies that you have acquired in different courses with different grading, this will be done without grading and with the remark "passed".

Our tip in advance: To benefit from a cost reduction, you must submit your application for recognition by the end of your trial month at the latest. This way you reduce the number of your monthly instalments - the amount of the instalments itself remains the same.

• Your additional agreement on the amount of the price reduction is valid from the official enrolment date. For legal reasons, we can only officially recognise your previous achievements after your successful enrolment.

• Your tuition fee is reduced by 30 euros for each recognised ECTS point.

• For us to be able to grant you a cost reduction, you must submit missing documents no later than four weeks after submitting your application or our request for missing documents.

• There is no entitlement to the delivery of teaching material in recognised courses. Separate provision is only possible on request and for a fee. However, you can view the scripts with the free Interactive Book.

If your studies start at the same time as your application for recognition is being assessed: Please do not enrol in any of the courses for which you have applied for recognition when you start your studies. We can only register your recognised courses after the completion of the assessment process and after your enrolment.

For new courses, the new modules will only be available at the beginning of the respective semester.

Please note: Once you have registered your previous achievements, you will be unable to take an examination for this course. If you have registered for an examination for a module for which you have also applied for recognition, your application for recognition for this module is invalid according to § 7 Para. 1 of the General Examination Regulations of the IU.
