Prof. Dr. Thomas Lange

International institutions play a central role in the formation of political structures – institutions also have a considerable influence on global health governance. Despite many successful examples, institutional actions are often contested or blocked. This project compares two forms of contestation. The intra-organizational contestation of the European Union and the contestation dynamics between International Organizations (IOs) and its member states along the COVID-19 crisis.

This research project focuses on the evolution of the "Global Gag Rule" under different U.S. administrations. Guided by political science theory, the project seeks patterns for the permanent resurgence and its effect on the work of NGOs.
